Consulting
Knowing the exercises is the beginning. Knowing how to teach them to the person in front of you, in a practice you can sustain, is a different skill entirely.
Unfortunately, most Pilates teachers are left to figure this out on our own. This is why I’m publicly offering consulting for the first time at ALPS Movement.
What we’ll work on
This isn’t a fixed curriculum or prepackaged consulting service. Our sessions are built around what you actually need, which might be your client protocols, your scheduling, your teaching philosophy, your business structure, or simply figuring out what kind of teacher you want to be. Sometimes all of the above.
Since 2016, I’ve taught Pilates and fitness full-time and ran ALPS Movement since 2018, through a pandemic, a relocation, years of personal turmoil, and without the kind of financial safety net that makes those decisions straightforward.
My aim is to provide structured consulting for Pilates teachers who are trying to build sustainable teaching practices and business that promote kindness, curiosity, and respect for nuance through Pilates and fitness. It is important to be clear that this consulting is not intended to be a one-stop-shop-solution. I’ve watched too many good teachers quietly disappear from the industry for reasons that were entirely preventable, and these sessions should help you make empowered, informed decisions about your career and future.
Why me?
In addition to my teaching and studio experience, I hold an honors post-graduate diploma in experiential learning from the University of Cumbria, where one of my focuses was how the marketing of an educational experience shapes - and often distorts - the experience itself. To put it bluntly: I’ve spent a long time thinking about the gap between what teacher training and experiential learning promise and what it actually prepares you for.
I’ve been featured in BuzzFeed News and 20 Minuten (Switzerland) for my public criticism of how fitness instructors are trained, compensated, and supported, or more accurately, how they aren’t. I also have experience in risk management, having worked in expedition logistics, and traditional business, having worked for organizations ranging from the British Council to startups.
